She’s known and loved by Kenyans as the hilarious character, Wilbroda, on Citizen TV’s hit comedy show Papa Shirandula.
Nothing really comes on a silver platter in life, and Jacqueline Nyaminde can attest to that.
Even though her flag is flying high, she is not a new kid on the block. Jacquey has been in the acting industry for an impressive 17 years.
Citizen Digital caught up with the lovely Wilbroda at a relaxed joint in the city on Tuesday afternoon, a day after she celebrated her birthday.
She looked gorgeous in her free-flowing floral print maxi dress and make-up free face. She was effortlessly and naturally beautiful!

She was very tiny during her childhood
If you see Wilbroda’s tall, elegant, curvaceous frame today-you cannot imagine she was a tiny bodied child.
The first born in a family of six says her miniature frame did not please her, consequently making her to envy her playmates.
“I played bladaa, bano, kalongo… In kalongo, I was always the child because I was very tiny. That used to hurt me! So, nilikuwa naambia yule alikuwa anafanya part ya jogoo, mmmh; baba na mama wakianza tu kulala hivi, wika ndiyo baba na mama wasipate fursa ya kufanya mchezo kasarani!”
She sent me into stitches – my ribs hurt till now.
Wilbroda grew up in Nairobi West, Lang’ata and Rongai. Since her childhood, she has always been a darling to many.
“I had a normal childhood. We were neither rich nor poor,” she said.
Wilbroda says she recently visited the secondary school she attended, Koru Girls’ High School in Nyanza, where she gave a speech.
“The girls were so excited to see me – they literally went wild. I was so humbled since I did not expect to receive such a reception. I gave them a serious talk!”
Can she remember the ‘serious
Jacquey Akinyi Nyaminde or as we fondly know her, Wilbroda, has earned her place in the local film industry. And while we know her as the illiterate housewife trying to conform to urban standards, she is a different kettle of fish altogether in real life. Had I not seen the latest pictures of Jacquey Akinyi Nyaminde aka Wilbroda, I wouldn’t have picked her out at the restaurant where we met for this interview. She has lost considerable weight and looks trendy in a flowered top and crocheted Marley braids, a far cry from Wilbroda – the illiterate village woman she portrays in the local hit show Papa Shirandula. We exchange pleasantries and my tongue slips as I call her by her stage name.
“You are not the only one who mistakenly calls me Wilbroda. The character has become so part of me that it is difficult for anyone to distinguish between Jacquey and Wilbroda,” she says as a matter-of-factly.
In life as on screen, Jacquey is a loud person and full of life. Our conversation is interspersed with loud laughter from her end attracting some curious glances from the tables around. Speaking of glances, the customers at the restaurant keep throwing knowing glances our way but this doesn’t seem to faze her. She is in her element.
Before we settle into the interview, she excuses herself to make a few calls. Apparently, her mother is unwell and she wants to ensure that she receives medical attention. She says being a first-born made her to be responsible, a trait she carries in all her endeavours.
“Being the eldest child meant that I would be used as a yardstick for my siblings and so there was pressure to always perform in everything I did. I was very careful not to set a bad precedent,” say the first-born in a family of six siblings.
Growing up
Apart from being responsible, Jacquey reveals that she is a very honest person, a trait she picked from her father. “My father was very honest sometimes too honest to a Wilbroda real name Jackeline Nyaminde, portrays the life of an illiterate housewife who relies on her husband for almost everything, and for that, she usually dresses in not so elegant clothes but knows how to bring the humor out. The celebrated film star’s off-screen persona is however very different, and one wouldn’t believe how she carries herself and her style in terms of outfits. Away from the cameras, Jacky Nyaminde is a very independent woman, and her fashion sense is elegant and stunning, and not just that, the renowned actress is also a mother to a cute young boy. Though many of her fans don’t know this, Wilbroda is a mother to a handsome boy, Xola, who will turn 7 years in July 2017. Her son is all grown up and she is is a proud woman who admits that he is the best thing to have happened to her. The sassy TV girl loves to keep her private life off the public radar and has never revealed who she’s currently dating, so all we know is that she appreciates and adores her son.
