Love Island Australia narrator Eoghan McDermott has split with his long-time girlfriend, glamorous doctor Aoife Melia.

The Irish TV presenter, 39, confirmed their breakup in an emotional post on his Instagram account on Monday. 

He said the couple went their separate ways around 18 months ago, and he is still struggling to come to terms with it.

'All I can say is the last 18 months have been devastating and life-altering in ways that I haven't fully processed yet. I met Aoife 15 years ago and think she has been and will remain the most wonderful person I've ever known,' he wrote. 

'I'm sorry we didn't get to see our story have a happy ending and so sorry for the turmoil that upended her life, through no fault of her own. 

'All I can do is thank her for the many wonderful years together and wish her every happiness in her new life. 

McDermott, 39, confirmed the breakup with an emotional post on his Instagram account on Monday

The TV presenter praised his former partner in the heartbreaking statement 

'Pretty much every bit of myself I've worked on and improved over the year has been on account of wanting to live up to her standards and match her best qualities. 

'She made me kinder, gentler, more patient, less selfish and better in most ways a person can measure,' he concluded his post.

"I hope she finds the happiness and peace she so richly deserves.' 

McDermott and Melia were together for a number of years when they were in university before breaking up. They subsequently rekindled their romance in 2016 before going public 

Ms Melia has reportedly moved on and is now dating the heir to Ireland’s Tayto potato chips empire, Charlie Coyle. 

Stepping out for the first time since announcing their pregnancy, Eoghan McDermott looked all loved up with his partner Alessandra Heredia.

After disappearing, out of the blue from radio, almost a year later, he resurfaced online, publicly addressing the reasons for his year-long absence. He said: 'A few months ago, false allegations were made about me. Despite not being investigated or verified, these allegations were spread widely, the effects of which I am still processing.'

Alessandra is not just a pretty face as the Peruvian native has achieved degrees in Latin America before heading to Stanford University, School of Business.

She has worked with several high-tech companies such as Google, Salesforce and IMB before starting her own company Inside Out Coaching in 2018.

According to her professional profile online she is described as a Career, Team and Life Coach.

Acting

Alessandra also has dabbled in the world of acting and has trained at Bow Street Academy of Screen Acting, in Dublin and is represented by the agency Red Kite Talent.

She has starred in several small productions such as short films Where The Trees Grow, It Doesn't Stop and Spring Awakening and Thanatos. Alessandra is also one to take to the stage in different productions.

To add to her skills she is also a trained dancer in salsa and jazz.

Relationship

While it is not known when or where the couple met they have spent plenty of time travelling the world together.

They spent three weeks in Bali in October visiting Seminyak and Uluwatu.

    The news of her pregnancy came as a surprise to followers of the former radio DJ as he has kept a low profile and has largely stayed out of the public eye since his sudden departure from 2FM in 2021.

    Eoghan McDermott has announced he is set to become a dad for the first time.

    The former 2FM breakfast show host, 41, shared the baby news on social media, announcing his girlfriend Alessandra Heredia is expecting their first child.

    The video also contained pics of Alessandra and Eoghan's maternity shoot as he kissed her baby bump on a beach. It is not known how long the presenter and Alessandra, who is an actress, have been dating or when Baby McDermott is due.

    In 2021, Eoghan quit his job overnight at the national broadcaster amid widespread speculation about 'false allegations' made about him which were since retracted.

    The former presenter has since largely stayed out of the public eye since leaving RTÉ but revealed earlier this year he had seemingly been forced to sell his house, saying he had 'hoped to write many more chapters' there.
