  • Interview: ‘Little Bone Lodge’ Writer & Star Neil Linpow

March saw the world premiere of Matthias Hoene’s latest film Little Bone Lodge at FrightFest Glasgow. The film stars Joely Richardson as a mother who goes to extreme lengths to protect her family when two brother arrives at their remote farmhouse one stormy night. Written by Neil Linpow, who also stars in the film, Little Bone Lodge is a twisty home invasion thriller that has plenty of tricks up its sleeve. The premiere of Little Bone Lodge went down a treat with the FrightFest crowd and there’s good news if you missed it there as it is now available to watch on digital platforms. To coincide with the release we sat down with Neil Linpow to discuss the journey from script to screen.

Little Bone Lodge went down a treat at FrightFest Glasgow, how did you find the experience?

Honestly, as fun as it was – it was mostly a massive, massive relief. Haha. I think when you are on the inside of a film, it’s sometimes hard to have an objective opinion on it. You’ve seen behind the curtain, so to speak. Starting from our initial conversations (with Matthias Hoene), I’d spent two years with this film in my head before that screening. Like all films, there were sturdy roadblocks in the way, and we’d been on this roller coaster journey together, where the film and our perceptions of it existed in a bit of a bubble. We felt we’d made something cool and interesting, but before before Glasgow, the reality is that we had absolutley no idea what anyone else would think about it, and that was scary for us both.

When the lights went up, and we got such a warm reception, it felt like a weight had been lifted off of my chest and I could finally breathe, as dramatic as that sounds. When you’ve been working for an opportunity in your career, and it’s taken a while to come along, I think there is always this fear. A fear that you might actually just be that

Interview with Neil Linpow, writer and star of Little Bone lodge

NYX: Did you see anything or were influenced by anyone to become a writer/actor?

NL: My family, for sure. No one worked in film. Not even close, but both my Mum and Dad were captivating storytellers. My favourite memories are walking with my Dad as he would rift these amazing narratives, or being inspired by my mum to write down my ideas.  She was such a beautiful writer, and never one to miss the opportunity to spin a tall tale herself. My brother and I fell in love with film, on a horrendously nerdy level. Some of our most heartfelt and poignant moments in life have been spoken in movie quotes. In terms of filmmakers, I was lucky to have grown up through the 90’s. An incredible decade of movies with the emergence of some of today's most important filmmakers. I loved twisting narratives. David Fincher’s The Game, Fight Club and Seven. Clever thrillers like The Usual Suspects and contained masterpieces like Misery. If I had to summarise the answer with one film and one actor though, I’d offer up the following. Film - Alien. Arguably the most perfect example of a film that hits every single story beat, exactly when it’s supposed to. Perfectly cast, masterfully directed and scary as f*ck. Actor - Kurt Russell. There is literally nothing he can’t do and nothing I wouldn’t watch him in. His Jack Burton in Big Trouble in Little China is my spirit animal. Haha.

NYX: Where did the idea for Little Bone Lodge come from?

NL: A lack of a good therapist. Haha. But for real, I think it came from a simple conversation with Matthias (the director) mid covid lock down in 2020. I had made a couple of short films that had performed well on the festival circuit and won a few decent trinkets here and there. Both of the films were thrillers, set in one location, with just one actor. Me. Partly as a performance vehicle for me, and partly because the films were self funded and I was free. Ha ha. Matthias

Theodosia is an English-language fantasy adventure television series, produced by ZDF and Cottonwood Media and based on the children's adventure novels by Robin LaFevers.

Presented at the 2021 MIPCOM, the first season premiered in the United States on HBO Max on 10 March 2022, followed by the premieres on CBBC on 25 April and Globoplay on 21 June 2022. It later premiered in Portugal on Biggs.

Theodosia was renewed for a second season, which adapted the second novel in LaFevers' series, of which the first half of thirteen episodes was released on BBC iPlayer on 21 January 2024. The remaining thirteen episodes were released on BBC iPlayer on 05 May 2024.

After Max dropped the rights on 17 May 2023, BYUtv picked up the US rights. While originally announced as only a season 1 pickup, this was debunked when BYUtv began televising the series. Season 1 began on the networks app and website on 22 October 2023, and season 2 premiered on the same on 23 October 2024.
