    Alex Broun. Born in Sydney, Australia, Mr. Broun has enjoyed considerable success in Theater, TV and film as a writer, actor and director.     Award winning Australian writer Alex Broun has had over 100 different ten minute plays produced in over 1000 productions in over 40 countries all over the world, including Australia, Austria, Canada, Chile, Croatia, Egypt, England, Estonia, France, Germany, Hungary, India, Ireland, Japan, Korea, Kuwait, Macedonia, Malaysia, Mexico, Mozambique, Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Poland Portugal, Romania, Scotland, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, UAE, Ukraine, USA and Wales. His plays have also been translated into many languages and published in many nations.

    His most popular short play, 10,000 Cigarettes, has had over 200 productions across the globe, including being produced in 35 states of the USA. In 2010 in Concepcion, Chile 10,000 Cigarettes was used by a local theatre group "to bring some joy to the community" after the devastating earthquakes. The same year in Chile some of his plays were translated into Spanish and sent down to the trapped miners for them to read while they waited to be rescued and a collection of his short plays was translated into Persian and published in Iran.

    His one act and full length plays have been produced around Australia and the world including at the Sydney Opera House, La Mama, the Old Fitzroy, Belvoir St Theatre, Chapel Off Chapel, the Darlinghurst Theatre, Newtown Theatre, King Street Theatre, the Hayes Theatre, the Brisbane Powerhouse and the Arts Centre in Melbourne.

    Alex is a former winner of the Sydney Theatre Company Young Playwright's Scheme and he has had plays workshopped and developed by the Sydney Theatre Company, Playwriting Australia and the Australian National Playwright's Conference.

    His play, The Jacaranda Tree, was a winner of the Inscription script award in 2009. From 1995 to 2000 he was based in South Africa where his play, Pick Ups, was nominated for Best Script in the Vita Awards in 1998.

    Alex Broun is an Australian theatre director/producer, playwright and screenwriter, who has worked extensively with Short+Sweet, a series of theatre festivals for productions of ten minutes or less. Born in Sydney, Australia, he has been referred to as "the Shakespeare of short plays". Broun has had over 100 ten-minute plays produced in over 2000 productions in more than 40 countries globally, and his plays have been translated into many languages. He has also worked extensively as a Rugby journalist and served as Media Manager for the Springboks (1997–2000), the British & Irish Lions (2001), and the Melbourne Rebels (2007).

    Theatre history

    In his early years Broun trained at the Australian Theatre for Young People in Sydney, Australia, acting in plays alongside Nicole Kidman. His work has been performed at the Sydney Festival, Edinburgh Festival and Brighton Festival. Among his performed plays are The Jacaranda Tree,Vicious Streaks, and Just Once.

    Half a person – my life as told by The Smiths – a one-man show based on the music of The Smiths – was produced by Fly-on-the-wall Theatre (Directed by Robert Chuter, starring David Foster) at FEAST in Adelaide in 2006 and at the Newtown Theatre in Sydney in September 2007. The play was then re-mounted by Fly-on-the-Wall Theatre at Chapel off Chapel in Melbourne, Australia starring Mark Taylor in May 2010.
