Cricket taught UFlex CMD valuable lessons in team-building, collective action

Ashok Kumar Chaturvedi, Founder, Chairman and MD of UFlex has been playing cricket since his childhood and his love for the game only grew with age.

"I truly believe in this maxim and am fortunate to be practising this in my life so far. When you enjoy your work, there is no question of stress at all. Cricket is a game that is played with a hard ball that requires one to be tough, it’s not a game that can be enjoyed with a soft ball. Cricket revitalises me as much as my work," he says.

Cricket teaches teamwork and Chaturvedi believes in promoting a healthy work culture of teamwork and teambuilding at UFlex as well.

"In a game of cricket, each player comes with their individual strength that compliments one another; it’s a game where everyone is required to pitch in with their best to achieve a common objective. An organisation that creates an ecosystem for teamwork and constructive interaction, benefits from the teams’ collective strength, inspires one another and stimulates innovation," he shares.

Earlier Chaturvedi's favourite cricketer was Kapil Dev and from the current set of cricketers, he admires Virat Kohli a lot.

"Both of them share a common instinct to aim for success. Even though their cricketing skills and strategy varies, both have been great mentors to lead their team to some exceptional performances by the Indian team that will be remembered forever," he says.

Their passion and zeal for cricket is the top quality that has inspired Chaturvedi a lot. "You got to be passionate about what you do, be it a sport, academics, having a job or being an entrepreneur. Your passion is the fuel that will keep your vehicle moving and make you reach your destination," he says.

    Indian police and intelligence official

Ashok Chaturvedi, IPS (1947 - September 18, 2011) was the chief of India's external intelligence agency the Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW) from 1 February 2007 to 31 January 2009. Chaturvedi succeeded P.K.H. Tharakan, a 1968 batch officer of the IPS Kerala cadre who retired on 31 January 2007.

Chaturvedi was part of the Indian Police Service (IPS) as a 1970 batch officer from the Madhya Pradesh cadre before joining R&AW's own service cadre the Research and Analysis Service (RAS). Chaturvedi, who was an analyst on Bangladesh and Nepal, had also served in the United Kingdom and Canada besides a stint in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir.

    The V.K. Singh Book Dispute

Controversy and media speculation about his future has also continued to follow Chaturvedi's career with his failed attempts to ban the publication and sale of the book, India's External Intelligence: Secrets of Research and Analysis Wing R&AW, written by Major General V.K. Singh, formerly a colleague and Joint Secretary in R&AW. In the book, V.K. Singh made a number of claims about R&AW including petulant conduct from a senior officer within the organization who went on unauthorised leave for eight months after being overlooked for promotion and who was tagged with malfeasance and ineptitude. The book was published and distributed both in India and abroad in June 2007 and the matter had largely been forgotten.

However, Chaturvedi curiously resurrected the issue months later when V.K. Singh's home was raided on 21 September 2007 by officials from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). A case was registered against V.K. Singh under the Official Secrets Act of India (OSA). The following day the offices of the publishers of the book, Manas Publications, were also raided.
