The Legend of Gerald Okamura

Born in Hilo, Hawaii in 1940. Gerald started Martial Arts with Judo in 1953. He has practiced Kendo, Aikido, Taekwondo, and he is currently a 5th degree black belt in Kung Fu San Soo.

Gerald is a designer of various types of weaponry that has been featured in dozens of movies and publications across the world.

In his first TV role, he was casted as a Shaolin Monk alongside David Carradine in the TV series Kung Fu.

His first Movie role was with James Caan, Bo Hopkins, & Burt Young in a movie called Killer Elite.

A veteran actor with a 50 year career in the entertainment industry, Gerald has played an assortment of characters ranging from Yakuza, to Vampires, to bad Elvis Impersonators, to you name it!

Although laughingly, Gerald is still looking to be casted as a leading man in a Romantic feature.

Biography

Gerald Okamura was an actor who had a successful Hollywood career. Okamura's early acting career consisted of roles in various films, such as the action picture "The Octagon" (1980) with Chuck Norris, the mystery "Charlie Chan and the Curse of the Dragon Queen" (1981) with Peter Ustinov and the Marilyn Chambers comedy "Angel of H.E.A.T." (1981). He also appeared in "The Weapons of Death (1981)" (1981) with Eric W C Lee. He kept working in film throughout the eighties and the nineties, starring in "Time Burst - The Final Alliance" (1989), "9 1/2 Ninjas" (1990) with Michael Phenicie and "Showdown in Little Tokyo" (1991). In his more recent career, he continued to act in the Kevin Light action film "Day of the Warrior" (1996), the action flick "American Streetfighter" (1997) with Gary Daniels and the Channing Tatum smash hit action movie "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" (2009). Most recently, Okamura acted on "Kickin' It" (Disney XD, 2010-14).

Gerald Okamura (born 1940) is an American actor, martial artist, and stuntman, known for appearing in numerous action films. He has acted in both mainstream blockbusters like Big Trouble in Little China and B-movies such as Samurai Cop.

Early life

Okamura was born in Hilo, Hawaii in 1940. He began studying judo at the age of 13. He enlisted in the United States Army after graduating high school, where he was deployed to South Korea and was introduced to taekwondo. After his discharge, he moved to Los Angeles, where he enrolled in Jimmy H. Woo's San Soo school, eventually earning a 5th-degree black belt.

Okamura has also trained in kendo and aikido, and is a designer of various types of weaponry.

Career

Okamura began doing stunts in 1975, getting his first credited role in 1980. Since then he has appeared in 39 feature films, notably Big Trouble in Little China, Samurai Cop, Samurai Cop 2: Deadly Vengeance, Ninja Academy, 9½ Ninjas!, Ring of Fire, Blade, and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. Other roles he's played are Kai-Ogi in Mighty Morphin Alien Rangers, a sensei in Power Rangers Wild Force, and Chao Chong in VR Troopers.
