A Seasoned and celebrated Professional dancer/singer/actor with 20 years of experience working on and off Broadway. For 11 years, I’ve been a celebrated dance/musical theater acting and voice educator serving on the faculty of Texas State University, the American Musical and Dramatic Academy, and the NY Film Academy. LaQuet trained at William Esper Studios with William Esper and is a proud SUNY Empire State College graduate with a BA in Theater & Dance.

As an educator, LaQuet’s movement analyst eye is a winning ingredient for helping students understand why the body moves with grace, style, and fluidity. The Onset Technique is an educational tool that promotes ease, flow, and connectivity. My methodology has been welcomed in multiple universities and conservatories, including Ballet Austin, The Performing Arts Project, Texas Christian University, and countless dance and theater schools nationwide.

First, Mickye Castillo’s Freedom in the Dance (FITD) Ministry is a powerful and anointed dance ministry out of Dallas, so that alone tells you this will be good!! But then…. they added a drum corps to the dance!!

Won’t you join me on the dance floor today? This is going to take some artistic license and creative choreography, but I hope you will join me with open mind, heart and eyes.

When I first watched this dance to Luminus on So You Think You Can Dance (2015), I was immediately taken with what I saw as the image of the Trinity: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Three dancers dancing and creating together in unity and beauty. Let me describe what I see in this dance. You can follow along with the times throughout the video indicated.

    The biggest dance competition in the world,World of Dance, continued to amaze as more dancers took the stage. The fight to win the title of “World’s Best Dancer” intensified as the Qualifier round continued, and each routine came with its own special flare in hopes of battling it out in the Duels with other great talent.

    Cubcakes Dance Crew were first to hit the stage with a hip hop routine that was explosive from the very beginning. This tiny, cute but fierce group came with the goal to win as they served face along with personality throughout their performance. While highlighting everyone’s strengths within the group, Cubcakes’ movement popped from one transition to the next as they delivered strong yet clean movement with entertainment quality to match. Along with their show-stopping personality, Cubcake’s stunts were executed fearlessly, and they showed the makings of a really great dance crew going forward. With a score of 83.0, they are on to the Duels to face off with best of the best.

    Back again and ready to tackle the critiques from last season were Luka and Jenalyn. They started their routine subtly with great musicality and isolation through each movement. With a buffet of dance styles intertwined into their performance, Luka and Jenalyn showed the maturity and growth in their partnering style, while bringing even more of the death-defying partnering stunts that the judges loved from last season. Their chemistry was undeniable and even stronger compared to last season, and they came with a mission to make it all the way through the competition. Applying the critiques from the judges and incorporating more dancing into their routine proved to be the key to getting them through to the Duels after scoring an 87.0.

  • Season Preview: The Most Intriguing Shows of the 2019–20 Season

    The 2019–20 season is here, and with it more performances than any one person could reasonably catch. But fear not: We polled our writers and editors and selected the 31 most promising tickets, adding up to one endlessly intriguing year of dance.

    Right Men, Wrong Man

    cohorts Thomas Kail and Alex Lacamoire are at it again. This time, the director and orchestrator are collaborating on a new off-Broadway musical riffing off of Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues.” The Wrong Man tells the story of Duran, who didn’t shoot “a man in Reno just to watch him die,” but was blamed for a murder he says he didn’t commit.

    The book, music and lyrics were developed by Ross Golan, whose chart-topping songwriting credits span from Flo Rida to Ariana Grande to Lady Antebellum. Travis Wall‘s choreography completes the production’s promising pop-culture mashup. Previews start Sept. 18. Opens Oct. 7 at MCC Theater New York City. mcctheater.org. —Madeline Schrock

    Swan Lake Gets Twisted

    There’s never been a Swan Lake quite like this. In Michael Keegan-Dolan’s Loch na hEala, a Catholic priest, caught sexually abusing one of his gifted young charges, turns the girls into “swans” wearing convent frocks. The prince? Unemployed, living with his mother and toting a shotgun. The beautifully bleak work finds moments of reprieve in comic vignettes and exquisite movement gleaned from Irish and modern idioms.

    Created for Keegan-Dolan’s Teaċ Daṁsa (House of Dance) in 2016, Loch na hEala is an Irish folk tale with contemporary relevance. The piece receives its U.S. premiere at Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Next Wave Festival Oct. 15–20, then travels to Minneapolis, Ottawa, Los Angeles, Ann Arbor and Chapel Hill this fall. teacdamsa.com. —Camille LeFevre
