Adelsteen Normann ( ) at Galleri Bodøgaard, Bodø. Adelsteen Normann, a painter born in Bodø, depicts the Norwegian landscapes, especially fjords. The gallery owner, Harald Bodøgaard described Normann as "forgotten artist" and he hopes to help bring him "into the light again." Normann's oil paintings focus on the intense natural terrain of Nordland, with occasional appearances of distant seaside human activities such as fishing and boating, but the panoramic scenes are mostly absent of any human traces, focusing only on the sublime, light-flooded landscapes. Also on view is a dense floor-to-ceiling presentation of Bodøgaard's collection of historical Russian religious icons and artifacts (gilded saint paintings, adorned crosses, etc.). Lastly, the sprawling basement of Galleri Bodøgaard is an archive of sorts, considered an "ethnographic collection" with Bodøgaard's personal accumulation of historical ephemera from Nordland (including ropes and fishing nets, Viking belts and tools, hand-made lace, old photographic equipment, wolf drawings, sardine cans, and rock minerals). Some of these objects are archaeological and profound, dating as far back as the Stone Age, and others are playful: every time Bodøgaard upgrades his cell phone, he adds the former to a pile within the ethnographic collection.

In Kaiser Wilhelm II also bought a painting where the subject was from the Nærøyfjord. In Germany, Normann married Cathrine Hubertine Weitgan from Rheinland. They had 4 children: Emma, Otto, Olga and Walter. When Cathrine died, Normann married Luise Rostalski. They had a son called Adelsteen. In Normann moved from Düsseldorf to Berlin. He lived here for the rest of his life. The summers were spent in Balestrand. In Berlin Normann became a well known person both as an artist and as a member of the "Verein Berliner Künstler". He established a school for painters. When Normann was in Norway in he visited an Edvard Munch exhibition. Normann was facinated by his art and made arrangements so that Munch could bring an exhibition to Berlin. Munch brought more than 55 paintings. Munch and Normann worked together while preparing for the exhibition which was under the direction of Verein Berliner Künstler. However, society was not ready for Munch's art. There was a tremendous uproar. The association disintegrated and the exhibition closed after a short time. The dispute about Munch shattered the art society. Normann often painted a steamship instead of "sognejekter" (a boat with high, upright stem) and rowing boats. He owned a beautiful "Nordlandsbåt" ( a boat typical for the northern part of Norway) which he used frequently, and for this he bought an outboard engine. This was one of the first of its kind in Bales Contrasts in light and nature have been a source of inspiration for both local and visiting artists for centuries.
