PREVIEW: CHEVY CRUZE
Hey there, time traveller!
This article was published 16/11/ ( days ago), so information in it may no longer be current.
The nifty compact Chevrolet Cruze sedan, which hit the ground running when it was introduced two years ago, is the third-best-selling vehicle in its class in North America right now, behind only the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla.
This fall, the stylish and fun-to-drive Cruze sedan enters its third year with a starting price range of $14, to $26, Trim levels are the LS, LT Turbo, LTZ Turbo and the economical Eco.
Not yet available is a diesel model of the Cruze, which Chevy has promised for sometime during calendar year The Cruze diesel already is available in Europe.
For , there are new infotainment and safety features available for the Cruze, including the Chevrolet MyLink system and two new audio systems including one with GPS navigation and a seven-inch color touch-screen.
Also available on LT, Eco and LTZ models is the Enhanced Safety Package, which includes such crash-avoidance features as a blind-spot warning system, rear cross-traffic alert and rear parking assist.
The MyLink system brings such items as Bluetooth audio streaming audio for music from certain smartphones; voice control for phone, music and radio; Pandora and Stitcher smartphone compatibility; and Gracenote (playlist and album art) capability, Chevrolet says.
The LTZ Turbo tester (base price $26,) came with the new Driver Convenience Package, which added driver and front passenger illuminated vanity mirrors, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, backup camera and power/heated outside mirrors. The test car also had the Enhanced Safety Package, as well as the Pioneer Premium Audio System, with watts and nine speakers.
The Cruze is roomier and more fuel-efficient than its key competitors and also has more standard safety features. Even though it’s priced to compete in the compact-sedan class, its interior has American automobile division of General Motors For other uses, see Chevrolet (disambiguation). "Chevy" redirects here. For people named or nicknamed Chevy, see Chevy (given name). Chevrolet (SHEV-rə-LAY), colloquially referred to as Chevy, is an American automobile division of the manufacturer General Motors (GM). Louis Chevrolet (–), Arthur Chevrolet (–) and ousted General Motors founder William C. Durant (–) started the company on November 3, as the Chevrolet Motor Car Company. Durant used the Chevrolet Motor Car Company to acquire a controlling stake in General Motors with a reverse merger occurring on May 2, , and propelled himself back to the GM presidency. After Durant's second ousting in , Alfred Sloan, with his maxim "a car for every purse and purpose", picked the Chevrolet brand to become the volume leader in the General Motors family, selling mainstream vehicles to compete with Henry Ford's Model T in and overtaking Ford as the best-selling car in the United States by with the Chevrolet International. Chevrolet-branded vehicles are sold in most automotive markets worldwide. In Oceania, Chevrolet was represented by Holden Special Vehicles, having returned to the region in after a year absence with the launching of the Camaro and Silverado pickup truck (HSV was partially and formerly owned by GM subsidiary Holden, which GM retired in ). In , General Motors Specialty Vehicles took over the distribution and sales of Chevrolet vehicles in Oceania, starting with the Silverado. In , Chevrolet was relaunched in Europe, primarily selling vehicles built by GM Daewoo of South Korea with the tagline "Daewoo has grown up enough to become Chevrolet", a move rooted in General Motors' attempt to build a global brand around Chevrolet. With the reintroduction of Chevrolet to Europe, GM intended Chevrolet to be a mainstream value brand, while GM's traditional European standard-bearers, Opel of Germany and Vauxhall of the A milquetoast and still common sedan, its easy to ignore the Cruze. That might be a mistake for historically-minded car enthusiasts. The Cruze has struck me for a while now as a pretty significant car in the story of GM and Chevrolet. I considered a few alternate titles for this piece including: -I Get By With A Little Help From My Friends -Where Were You In 82? -Deed You Hear An Eco? -Too Late Too Little Well hit these points, but I decided to approach it from the perspective of the animal kingdom. Based on an incident which Ill relate a little further down in the article, I believe that birds hate this car. Maybe not all birds, just particularly angry birds. Its been well known since that certain birds are really angry, at least if video games are the accurate reflection of reality we should obviously assume them to be. The game was released the same year as the H1N1 Swine Flu pandemic, which is why the punishing birds targeted pigs. In those simpler times, a rampant respiratory virus just inspired cute video games, rather than spurring society to tear asunder, but I digress. As the Angry Birds game became a big hit in , Chevrolet was introducing their latest reinvention of their compact/small car, a class we could diplomatically say they historically had a hard time succeeding in. Most here will be familiar with the tale of woe, but a quick overview may be welcome: Chevrolets first compact car was the Corvair, a fine and ambitious car in many ways yet famously controversial due to some myopic packaging and rear suspension decisions on GMs part. Chevy did shortly introduce their Chevy II/Nova, which was much more conventional and commercially successful. Then there was the Vega Oops! Wrong photo That looks correct. The Nova was not a particularly small car by , when GM needed something subcompact to effectively compete with the increasingly p Compact car This article is about the compact car produced since For the subcompact car produced between and , see Suzuki Ignis. Motor vehicle The Chevrolet Cruze is a compact car produced by General Motors from through It was designated as a globally developed, designed, and manufactured four-door compact sedan, complemented by a five-door hatchback body variant from , and a station wagon in The Cruze replaced several compact models, including the Chevrolet Optra which was sold internationally under various names, the Chevrolet Cobalt sold exclusively in North America, and the Australasian-market Holden Astra. The Cruze was released in for the South Korean market as the Daewoo Lacetti Premiere prior to the adoption of its international name in , when the Daewoo brand was discontinued. In Australasia, the model was sold between and as the Holden Cruze. In , the Cruze sedan was restyled and renamed for the Australasian market as the Holden Astra Sedan, as a sedan complement to the Holden Astra family. Due to the market shift towards SUVs and decreasing sales, the Cruze has been gradually phased out. Production of the Cruze in South Korea ended in as part of restructuring of GM Korea, which in turn ceased supply of the Holden Astra Sedan to Australasia. In the United States and Mexico, production ended in , while production in China ended in Production continued in Argentina until It was replaced by the Monza in China, which is known as the Cavalier in Mexico. Previously, the nameplate has been used for a version of a subcompact hatchback car produced under a joint venture with Suzuki from to , and was based on the Suzuki Ignis.
