Yoshio Sakamoto (geboren am 23. Juli1959) ist ein japanischer Spieleentwickler und Mitglied der Geschäftsführung bei Nintendo, wo er seit 1982 arbeitet. Er war federführend bei der Entwicklung diverser Videospiele, unter anderem der Metroid-Serie.
Leben
[Bearbeiten | Quelltext bearbeiten]Sakamoto ist eine der Schlüsselfiguren bei der Entwicklung der Metroid-Serie. Sakamoto wuchs mit Nintendo-Spielen auf, die er als fantasievoll erlebte. Das Unternehmen stellte ihn 1982 an, als er sein Studium an der Kunsthochschule abschloss. Zu seinen ersten Projekten gehörten das Design von Pixelgrafiken für Donkey Kong auf dem tragbaren Game-&-Watch-System und Donkey Kong Jr. auf Arcade-Automaten. Anschließend wand er sich der Arbeit auf dem Nintendo Entertainment System zu, auf dem er die Spiele Wrecking Crew, Balloon Fight und Gumshoe entwarf.
Sakamoto schuf Charaktere für Metroid (unter dem Pseudonym Shikamoto) und war einer der Spieleentwickler von Kid Icarus. Er entwarf Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion, Metroid: Zero Mission, Metroid: Other M und war Produzent von Metroid: Samus Returns. Beispiele von Sakamotos Arbeit als Grafiker finden sich außerdem in den Nintendo-Spielen Balloon Kid (1990), Game & Watch Gallery (1997), Wario Land 4 (2001), Super Smash Bros. Melee (2001) und WarioWare. Er gilt als eines der prominentesten Mitglieder von Nintendos ehemaliger Entwicklungsabteilung, die unter dem Namen Nintendo Research & Development 1 bekannt ist.

Yoshio Sakamoto (born July 23, 1959) is a senior officer at Nintendo EPD, better known for his work as producer, director and scenario writer on franchises like Metroid and Famicom Detective Club.History[]
Sakamoto joined Nintendo in 1982 and initially worked at the R&D1 department. His first video game was Donkey Kong on the Game & Watch where he designed the barrels. Following this, he worked on several Game & Watch games and assisted Shigeru Miyamoto on Donkey Kong Jr.. Later on, he worked on several classic Nintendo Entertainment System games including Metroid and Kid Icarus. For the first two entries of the Famicom Detective Club series (The Missing Heir and The Girl Who Stands Behind), Sakamoto was in charge of crafting the narrative, marking his debut as scenario writer.
After working on some Game Boy titles, he became very well known after he directed the Super Nintendo Entertainment System classic Super Metroid. He followed up on that game by heading the Virtual Boy title Teleroboxer and the Game Boy Color title Trade & Battle: Card Hero, only to return to the Metroid series later with Metroid Fusion, Metroid: Zero Mission.
Sakamoto gradually became a producer on the WarioWare series at Nintendo SPD, as well as the Rhythm Heaven and Tomodachi Collection franchises. He also became the main supervisor of the Metroid series, and returned as director and scenario writer on Metroid: Other M.
In late 2011, Sakamoto was promoted from his position as head of Software Planning and Development Group 1, to the Deputy General Manager of the Software Planning and Development Department an later Executive Officer in the Nintendo Entertainment Planning and Development Department. Yoshio Sakamoto (Japanese: 坂本 賀勇, Hepburn: Sakamoto Yoshio) (born July 23, 1959) is a Japanesevideo game designer, director, and producer. He has worked at Nintendo since 1982. He has directed several games in the Metroid series. He is one of the most prominent members of Nintendo's former Research and Development 1 division, along with Gunpei Yokoi and Toru Osawa.
Career
Sakamoto is a key member in the development of the Metroid series. Sakamoto grew up with Nintendo toys, which he felt were inventive. The company hired him in 1982, when he graduated from art college. His first projects at Nintendo were the design of pixel art for the Game & Watch handheld Donkey Kong, and the arcade gameDonkey Kong Jr. He turned to the Nintendo Entertainment System afterward, for which he designed the games Wrecking Crew, Balloon Fight and Gumshoe. Sakamoto also was the lead scenario writer and creator of Famicom Detective Club with its first two entries, some of the most influential visual novels in Japan in the 80s.
Sakamoto created characters for Metroid (under the alias 'Shikamoto'), and was a game designer on Kid Icarus. He also directed Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion, Metroid: Zero Mission, Metroid: Other M, and was the producer for Metroid: Samus Returns and Metroid Dread. Sakamoto's design work is also found in Nintendo games including Balloon Kid (1990), Game & Watch Gallery (1997), Wario Land 4 (2001), and the WarioWare series.

Yoshio Sakamoto (坂本 賀勇), born July 23, 1959, is a Japanese video game designer from Nara. He graduated Osaka University of Arts and has been employed by Nintendo since 1982. His early work consisted primarily of script writing and scenario planning before moving on to the role of game director for Nintendo R&D1's title Metroid - a series he has been creatively involved with ever since, either directing or supervising (Metroid: Other M). He would later form the Team Shikamaru group in the early 90’s within R&D1 to develop storylines for future titles developed by the team.
In 2007, Sakamoto currently resides with the recently formed Nintendo SP&D (Special-Planning & Development) division which consists of members from the now defunct R&D1.
