Shashi Tharoor is a well-known figure in India. He has had various careers, including working for the United Nations, being a diplomat, and a writer. He has been a Member of Parliament in India since 2009 and currently heads a committee on chemicals and fertilizers.

Despite being raised in India, Tharoor was born in London. He completed his studies at Tufts University and St. Stephen's College in Delhi. He worked at the United Nations for a long time and even tried to become the U.N. Secretary-General in 2006 but did not succeed.

In 2009, he entered Indian politics, joined the Indian National Congress, and won elections to represent Thiruvananthapuram. He held the position of junior minister in the cabinet and was an M.P. for three terms. He did not win the party's 2022 presidential contest and is not a follower of the Gandhis. He is now a part of the Congress Working Committee, a top decision-making group in the Indian National Congress.

Tharoor is also a writer and has won literary awards. He has written many books since 1981. Prior to Narendra Modi overtaking him, he was the most followed Indian on Twitter and was well-known for his exceptional grasp of the English language.

Early Life and Education

Shashi Tharoor was born in London, United Kingdom, on March 9, 1956. His parents, Chandran Tharoor and Sulekha Menon, were from Palakkad, Kerala, in India. His two younger sisters are named Smitha and Shobha. Shashi's paternal uncle, Parameshwaran Tharoor, created Reader's Digest in India, and his paternal grandfather was Chippukutty Nair.

Shashi's father, originally from Kerala, worked in different cities in India and the U.K., including London, Bombay (now Mumbai), Calcutta (now Kolkata), and Delhi. He had a 25-year career, eventually becoming a group advertising manager for The Statesman newspaper. When Shashi was two years old, his parents moved back to India. He started schooling at Montfort School in Yer
