He has written many books since 1981. Prior to Narendra Modi overtaking him, he was the most followed Indian on Twitter and was well-known for his exceptional grasp of the English language. Shashi Tharoor was born in London, United Kingdom, on March 9, 1956. His parents, Chandran Tharoor and Sulekha Menon, were from Palakkad, Kerala, in India. His two younger sisters are named Smitha and Shobha. Shashi's paternal uncle, Parameshwaran Tharoor, created Reader's Digest in India, and his paternal grandfather was Chippukutty Nair. Shashi's father, originally from Kerala, worked in different cities in India and the U.K., including London, Bombay (now Mumbai), Calcutta (now Kolkata), and Delhi.
